I went and got my car from the shop that did the hitch install. It’s still having electrical issues. The shop was still trying to see if BMW would warranty the body control module, which I think is a dead end, especially with the nearest BMW dealership being over 4 hours away, in Bloomington MN. So I paid off the hitch install, he gave me half off on the labor for that. And I’ll figure out my own solution for the BCM, or FRM as BMW calls it. I did tow the boat down my avenue just to see how it felt, she tows the little boat no problem.
As for symptoms I have no power window controls, no interior lights, no blinkers, and no fog lights. Everything else seems to be working.
I’m going to call the two local euro shops and see if one of them can take care of it in a timely manor. If not I’ll find a reliable refurbishment service and send it in.

Everything points in that direction. No blown fuses.

Maybe it's not worth the trouble to pursue but... The way I see it, everything worked before they touched it. I think they need to be on the hook for your upcoming bill.

Did they do a wiring isolating module harness when they put the hitch wiring in? That can cause issues with BMW vehicle systems if the measured voltage is off.

All they did with the trailer wiring is hook bolt on a negative to the battery, nothing was cut or spliced. I should try just disconnecting that ground wire.

Where are your light signals coming from then?

I’ve read bad reviews on the no cut/splice wiring still causing voltage draws. It was part of the reason I didn’t do a hitch on my 128i

They arent none of the trailer wiring is functional.

Yeah. Eventually I’ll have to spring for the OEM trailer harness. It’s only 300 bucks. (Starts crying.)

I agree with Dr. Zoidberg here. They broke your car, they have to get it right. That being said, on the same era E60/61 low voltage can cause all kinds of weird and unrelated electrical/electronic symptoms. So I’d disconnect their shit first and see what that does, especially when the battery is delivering full juice.
